Poems & Sangs In The Doric – Recited & Sang by Peter Chapman
Peter Chapman has a real passion for keeping the Doric language alive and does that at any opportunity through the reciting of Buchan poetry. Born and brought up on a farm in the Strichen area, south of Fraserburgh, he is Doric through and through. He recalls when he went to school in the 1950’s, learning English was like studying a foreign language.
Having mastered this craft, Peter went onto be a successful farmer and more recently became a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the North East Scotland region and where he can, uses his influence to encourage his local language. As the years go on, many of the truly Doric words are being lost, for as Peter would put it, ‘its pairt o wer heritage an fa we are’.
This CD has been produced with a selection of locally written poems and songs recently recorded by Peter.
